Fresher’s Spotify Picks – Coasts

Ahead of their show at Riverside on 20th September, shortly before Newcastle University’s Fresher’s Week gets into full swing, Coasts talked to us about their best Fresher’s tracks and latest album.

The band’s sophomore record, This Life, Vol. 1, was released in the middle of August and lead-singer Chris Caines talked about the group’s growth: “This record feels very different from the first release. A lot of the first record we’d had floating around in various forms for a few years whereas this was written and recorded in the space of about a year.”

Coast’s Newcastle show is part of a lengthy 39- date UK tour but Caines is still up for more: “It’s the greatest thing about being in a band. If we had it our way, we would be on tour more than we are. We have big plans for next year.”

We asked the band about their experience of the famous Geordie nightlife, here’s what they had to say: “We’ve played Newcastle a few times before and always had a good reception, as well as a big night or two after the show. Our guitarist is a Newcastle United fan too!”.

“All anyone wants to hear on a big Fresher’s night are songs they can scream along to”, Chris Caines reveals. Here’s what he picked as his go-to tracks for a Fresher’s Week party:

Sticks n Stones – Jamie T

Country Grammar – Nelly

Mr Brightside – The Killers

Love Will Tear Us Apart – Joy Division

She Moves in Her Own Way – The Kooks

Brown Sugar – D’Angelo
