NUFC coach to lead inspiring leadership session

NUFC coach Steve Black to give an inspirational motivational talk to student athletes.

The coach of Newcastle United Football Club, Steve Black, is expected to deliver an inspirational speech at the Business School on 23rd November at 5pm. The event, entitled ‘Motivational Leadership: Influencing for Success’, will take place in the Partners Room and it is free to attend upon registration.  The main focus of the event will be upon how to overcome challenges that a person may face during their professional career. Advice on how to motivate others and influence change will also be addressed.

Black, who is currently a Visiting Professor of Practice at Newcastle University’s Business School, has previously worked as a coach for Norwich FC, Fulham FC, and Huddersfield FC. Under his leadership,he has led teams to victory, scoring a number of championships in football as well as rugby.

According to The Times, “Steve Black is acknowledged as the best conditioning coach in the world” which makes him an ideal speaker, particularly as he is used to delivering management conferences, key note speeches, and seminars in which he places emphasis upon the importance of performance, motivation, leadership, effectiveness, and teamwork.

Kevin Keegan, a former football player and manager of Newcastle United, has labelled Black as being ‘the best one-to-one coach in the world’ whilst Graham Henry, the All Blacks coach, claims that Steve Black is ‘the best motivator I’ve ever encountered.’

The structure of the event consists of a welcoming followed by Steve Black’s speech. After, there will be a chance for audience members to ask questions and a chance to network.

Black prides himself on his ability to evolve himself to cater for the needs of the individuals that he coaches.

Johnny Wilkinson, a former rugby player who represented England, has attributed his success to Steve Black, who has coached at an international level with Wales and the British & Irish Lions. The Wales Rugby Football Union won eleven consecutive games under Black’s leadership. Working alongside Rob Andrew, Steve Black led the Newcastle Falcons to victory on two occasions – they won the Premiership and Tetley’s Bitter Cup the first time and they won the Powegen Cup on the second instance. Black has also coached at Fulham alongside Paul Bracewell, as well as working in swimming, boxing, and golf.

Black has returned to Newcastle United FC to work as Head of Performance with Steve McCloud.
