Newcastle University's student-run microbrewery—the first of its kind across the continent—was launched over 10 years ago, in August 2013. The initiative, which was set up by Student Community Action Newcastle (SCAN) and is now part of the Go Volunteer programme, became one of the only 25 initiatives in the UK, with a focus on the environment and sustainability, to receive funding from the 'Student Green Fund.'
StuBrew works alongside academics from the School of Engineering and other microbreweries based in the North East to establish the most sustainable brewery method. Any profit made through the brewery is invested in training students and the overall sustainability efforts.
Managed by students through the Newcastle University Student Union, all drinks brewed are available across the Campus (most notably in Luther's) and can even be spotted in local pubs and bars across the city. Each brew is made from scratch by Newcastle Students, with hops grown on student allotments, so you can drink your brew knowing it was completely homemade!
By getting involved with Stubrew and joining the Student Brewing Society you can learn how to make beer and help run the business. The society also hosts many exciting events and opportunities such as brewery tours, beer-tasting and trips.
