London is a worldwide travel hub, and although it’s often considered overated, it has everything you could ever want in a holiday destination. It is ridiculously easy to travel around, is packed with shops and restaurants and is home to some of the most famous landmarks in the world. Check out the Natural History Museum, Museum of London and the British Museum which grants free entries, the architecture alone is already an attraction itself. Grab tickets to a West End show to experience some real London entertainment. Cheap ticket booth can be found scattered around Leicester Square.
Edinburgh is just one and a half hours away from Newcastle, so there is no excuse to not pop over for a few days. Edinburgh is full of steep cobbled streets and ancient medieval buildings which are packde with things to do. My suggestion for new travellers is to buy a 13 pounds tourist bus ticket that will take you to the different attractions like the Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish Parliament building.
Cornwall is the seaside paradise of the UK with a myriad of beaches and hidden coves which will entertain tourists for hours. The Eden Project is also a must-see for those visiting. Marvel at the spectacular Biome architecture built with sustainable nature-friendly materials, reminding us how we are a part of nature. Cornwall is undeniably framed for its seaside and beaches, so relax on the sand or learn to surf, but make sure you pack a wet suit, it may be beautiful but the temperatures definietly aren’t tropical.
For those adventure lovers, Norway is perfect. Camp out to catch the Northern Lights and book daytime activities such as dog sledding in the Lyngen Alps or whale-watching. Another option would be to take the train to see Norway’s stunning countryside beginning in Oslo which runs over the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. If you feel like huddling indoors for the day, a trip to the Viking Ship Museum provides a learning opportunity, showcasing vessels which the Vikings used to sail the northern seas centuries ago.
With direct flights and ferries leaving from Newcastle, Amsterdam is the perfect post-exam city break. Relax in a cafe or hire a bike and a cycle along the canal, taking in the beauty of the amazing city. For those intrigued by history, Amsterdam is full of museums including Anne Frank’s house, a real must visit. One of the cheapest hotels in Amsterdam is the Botel, a hostel built inside a docked boat on the river. Not only is it great value for money, it also gives you an idividual experience you wouldn’t fins anywhere else. There really is something for everyone; whether you want culture or intoxication, you’re sure to find it here.
New York is one of the most iconic cities in the world and it’s the perfect post-uni destination. Take in the views at the top of the Rockefeller Centre or catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. Even on a budget you can still have a great time window shopping or pack a picnic and head to Central Park for the day. The huge exapnse of land is home to woodland, lakes and fields for you to explore. For those who want to leave the tourist hotspots then head to Brooklyn for a taste of local living. You’ll be spoilt for choice over where to eat and drink. If you have the time then head a little further down to Coney island, a seaside town that feels like it’s stuck in the past. Packed with fun fairs and a world famou hot-dog stand, it’s the perfect contrast to the rush of the city. In the evenings, take in the bright lights of Time Square or take in a Broadway show. Nothing is particularly cheap here but you can find good drinks deals if you venture away from the attractions.

This interesting country has managed to retain its cultural identity and history amidst the rapid modernisation of bullet trains and food vending machines. Start exploring in the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, take a photo in the middle of the Shibuya Pedestrian Crossing and shop at Harajuku Street. Had enough of the commercial aspect? Check out Japanese shrines like the Meiji Shrine or Togo Shrine. Don’t forget to visit at least one ‘onsen’ (hot spring) to relax your fatigued
